About Chauvin

Four generations of the Chauvin family have succeeded each other over a century without ever deviating from the specificities of Jura mountains. From father to son, with a ritual of shared management between brothers, the company has now reached a European dimension. Its progression over the decades is the result of the determination of the various managers to maintain the quality of the materials and services offered.

In the conventional wood market, the uses of the material are becoming legion. Transforming high-altitude softwood requires anticipating demands to propose increasingly technical products in an ever-expanding range. The teams are therefore fully invested, high-tech tools reinforce traditional equipment, logistics are refined, commercial representation is intensified…

The added value of the Chauvin Sawmill lies in the quality and aesthetics of its products. The result, in fact, of three parameters: forest origin, high-performance tools, rigor of grading.

Its sawing capacity is currently 220,000 m3 of logs per year and its workforce consists of 72 people

Products & Services

Chauvin sawmill has two production lines: one with a circular canter system for small timber, and the other with a double-cut band saw offering additional sawing flexibility. This allows them to offer a wide range of products, including:

– Structural timber: Sourced from softwoods, primarily spruce, structural timber is available in all the elements required by professionals and for construction projects: beams, joists, rafters, purlins, cut to order and in pieces, half-rafters, and planks. At the Mignovillard site, the timber undergoes rigorous grading and is then marked for complete traceability. Artificial drying is available upon request. Strength ratings: C18 or C24.
– Roofing timber: Thanks to a dedicated, fully automated line, we offer a wide range of battens and sheathing.
– Lamellae, intended for the glued laminated timber industry, are made from high-altitude softwood, graded C24 or C30, dried to 12% moisture content, and repackaged to optimize truck loading.
– Packaging timber, intended for packaging manufacturers for transporting and protecting goods, is treated according to ISPM 15 standards.
– Formwork timber, sourced from downgraded structural timber, with regular availability.

Chauvin sawmill also has 10 dryers with a weekly capacity of 1000 m³ for traditional drying or heat treatment, and 2 treatment tanks, allowing us to offer Class 2 treatment services (insecticide, fungicide).
