   Introduction


Juglans Regia
Walnut is a tall tree (10 to 20 meters).
Widespread in France, often alone in meadows.
Altogether, its accounts for 2.400 ha.
It can be harvested after 100 years.

Wood description
Heartwood is dark yellow to brown with darker veins. It is a straight-grained or slightly wavy wood with medium texture.


Preservation
Walnut is naturally durable.
It can be used in class 2 (dry atmosphere ).
After treatment, it can be used in class 4 (contact with non-salty water).

Conditions of implementation



Main uses
Walnut is mainly used by and for layout makers, cabinet-work, furniture and veneer.
It can be easily turned.


Mechanical characteristics
Figures given at 12% moisture content
(straight-grain timber and free from defects)
