   Introduction


Fraxinus Excelsior L.
Ash is a tall tree with a large diameter ( up to 1 meter ) and a rapid growth. Its trunck is straight, smooth, with grey-green bark.
They are harvested after 80 years.
altogether, Ash trees stand on 360.000 ha.

Wood description
Sawn timber shows a cream-white colour, straight-grained, and fine silver grain. Its heartwood is not distinct.
Grey heart does not impair the wood's mechanical characteristics.


Preservation
Ash is not very durable if not treated. With a quite easy impregnation, it can be used in class 3 ( humid atmosphere).

Conditions of implementation



Main uses
This species is favoured for international joinery, furniture and flooring. It can also be used for veneer production as well as light structure for boats.
